Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? Job 38:4-5

A line drawn in the sands of Eden and stretching to the end of time defines the beginning and end points of God’s covenant of redemption by declaring a long-lasting holy war between the seed of the serpent and the Seed of the woman. The Seed of the woman (Christ) will crush the head of the serpent (Satan), but he will bruise His heel (Genesis 3:15). Within God’s curse He shows mercy to the future family of Adam and Eve, declaring that One will come from the woman who will triumph over the enemies of God. That victory is ultimately realized at Calvary, where Christ is bruised by Satan at the cross but He rises truimphantly on the third day to crush Satan and his seed forever, and all authority in heaven and on earth are then given to Jesus (Matthew 28:18).

From the curse forward, the history of salvation is shaped by the growing enmity between the seeds, which is first seen in Cain’s murder of Abel (Genesis 4:8), and then in the increasing wickedness of the entire human race (Genesis 6:5).

Line is the basic element of visual design: the continuous trace of a moving point—either straight or curved with no thickness or breadth—that connects two ultimate points. It is the foundational component that the other elements build upon to create the finished work, and it is a key factor in setting the overall tone or emotion of a piece. Straight lines are usually static in character, angled lines are more dynamic, and curved lines tend to be restful.

Examples of this expressiveness are seen in these pictures, as the angled lines of the silver sword evoke a sense of tension and the curved lines of the lily pond create a feeling of calm.
