To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to gain, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. Acts 14:17

Seasonal symbolism in the Bible frequently deals with agricultural activities such as seedtime and harvest. Christ uses the metaphor of a plentiful harvest field with few laborers to illustrate that a vast number of people are ready to hear and respond to the gospel; but His disciples must first pray for God to send more workers, as no one can do the work of harvesting without being called to it and equipped for it by God (Matthew 9:37-38).

You have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter. Psalm 74:17

Because the earth is tilted at a fixed angle of 23.5 degrees, its Northern and Southern Hemispheres receive varying amounts of sunlight as the earth orbits the sun in the course of a year. As a result we enjoy a regular rotation of seasons; summer comes to the Northern Hemisphere when the North Pole has its maximum tilt toward the sun, and winter arrives when it is tilted farthest away from the sun. The seasons are reversed in the Southern Hemisphere and virtually nonexistent at the equator.

All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever. 1 Peter 1:24
