The principal environments of the earth—its mountains, forests, deserts, coasts, and grasslands—can be likened to separate galleries in a museum, each showing a distinct style or period of work in an artist’s life. A special harmony of character is shared by the pieces in each room, yet they are unmistakably related to the entire exhibit by the unique vision and talent of the artist who created them. In Psalm Twenty-Four David exclaims “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness” (Psalm 24:1). The entire world is God’s museum—the permanent venue for the display of His magnificent creations—and its environments are theme-specific galleries that highlight a distinctive characteristic within the overall unity of the art of God.
